Frequently Asked Questions

Are websites expensive?
When you compare the cost of a website to the likely return on investment, websites are actually pretty affordable. Sometimes just a few customers (depending on the industry) may pay for the site in a few transactions. Having a web presence establishes confidence in your clients and instills that you are invested in putting your best foot forward.
What is Hosting? Why do I need it?
Web hosting servers are the place your website's files are stored. If you want other people to be able to see your site and interact with it, you need hosting. Hosting is charged either monthly or yearly and is required when building a website.
How much do you charge?
I can usually give an estimate after meeting with a client and asking a few questions. When I build a proposal I am as transparent as possible, and I try to be fair across the board. Legitimate developers typically won’t give a price before assessing the scope of the work. If they do, there’s a good chance there will be hidden fees or up-charges. There are, however, developers who will cast a large net with fixed pricing regardless of the content of the site. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.
I've seen websites claiming that I can use their builder to build my own site. How are you any different?
While sites like WordPress.com, Wix, or Squarespace market their ease of access for first time users and customer service hotlines when something goes wrong; you miss out on the SEO opportunity and quality that a professional designer and developer bring to the table. As someone who built sites before getting a Tech Degree, I can attest that there’s a lot I was missing. Most people just don’t have the time to learn all that’s needed to do the job correctly.
Who provides the content when you build a site for me?
Unless agreed upon before creating a site, I request that the client provide the content. Content includes any copy and images that we will place on the website. This is standard practice. As a business owner/manager, you are going to be able to articulate what you do much better than someone who isn’t involved in the day to day. That being said, I can help edit the copy and word it in a way that tells your story in a clear and concise way. If you need help with content, I’ll be able to ask the right questions and assist however I can.
I already have customers. Why do I need a website?
Having a web presence, partnered with brand identity, is a way to show customers that you’re a real company. When a consumer searches for a service and the company hasn’t invested in a website it can lead to questioning their legitimacy.
How long does it take to build a website?
Each job is unique, but I will provide an estimated time-line when delivering a proposal. Client cooperation has a lot to do with how quickly the process goes. If you have further questions about your specific project feel free to contact me.
Do you build Apps?
I don’t currently offer that service myself, but I know a great local company who does. Feel free to contact me and I'll get you in touch with them. They do amazing work.
